Last night when I’d been to a birthday party I heard someone say “it’s still so cold and it’s already November” (cold meaning like 15-20° at night) and I thought to myself how weird this sounds as for me it’s normal that November is cold, I associate November with cold weather and not with summer. For me as a big autumn and winter person it’s actually so hard to live in a country where it’s summer during the European winter months, I don’t think it’s something I will ever get used to. Getting reminded everywhere on social media how dark,… Read More »Pumpkin Soup – a piece of autumn.
A little while ago I’ve seen a post on Instagram about The „Big Five for Life“ which made me think about what those Big Five are for me and thinking about this filled me with gratitude because it made me realize that I already ticked off so much of what could have made it to my top 5 bucket list: seeing the Northern Lightsvisiting Finlandsurfingliving abroad for at least several monthsstudying something that interests me… Just to name a few examples. So today I don’t really have a bucket list anymore, I feel I don’t need one. I’ve experienced so… Read More »Some call it a bucket list, I call it a bonus.
Do you struggle with an unhealthy relationship with food? Trust me, I understand. For me intuitive eating is something I had to learn again after struggling with an unhealthy relationship with food for the majority of my teenage years up until my mid-twenties. Undereating, overeating, not eating at all, weird eating rules,.. I already left all of that behind years ago with some small relapses inbetween, especially when I got sucked into that whole „high carb low fat“ lifestyle for a little while. I’m so grateful that today I’m able to listen to my body again, for me that’s all… Read More »Intuitive Eating
The other day I got a comment under one of my Instagram photos telling me “you’re disgusting, you’re a carnist, you were never vegan, you should change your account name”. First of all I felt that comment was pretty rude and second no, I’m not gonna change my name. Here’s why.. It’s true that I originally chose the name plantifulalexandra in reference of only eating plant foods. However, over the years I got quite attached to the name and people know me (or my account) under that name, it’s pretty much my “online identity”. I don’t see the point in… Read More »Why I’m not changing my name.
Happy Sunday! <3 The perfect day for some baking, right? As I’m not that big of a baking fan I usually don’t bake a lot and if I do I often try to be done with it as quickly as possible. However, this time I’d really been in the mood for baking so the other day when I was all alone at home I went into the kitchen at 10pm, turned on some nice music and started making banana bread as I had a bunch of super ripe bananas in the fridge and hadn’t made banana bread in quite a… Read More »Banana Bread with Nuts & Chocolate – extra fluffy.
When being away from your home country for a long time you’ll always carry a bit of homesickness within your heart, no matter where in the world you are. Of course I can only speak for myself here, maybe others feel completely different. I truly do miss Germany (or just Europe in general) all the time after not having been there for almost 14 months now. This doesn’t mean I’m miserable all day long thinking about how much I miss Germany, I don’t even feel sad about not being in Germany. Yes, sometimes when I look through photos from Germany,… Read More »Homesick? What I miss about Germany.
This Sunday I felt like having some cinnamon apple pancakes. So far I never added cinnamon to my pancakes but somehow I came up with this idea today. As it’s getting colder here in Australia now I just crave all the foods I’d normally have in German autumn and winter. It’s still so strange for me to live in a country where the seasons are working the other way round. For 5 pancakes you will need: 1 apple handful of walnuts 5 tbsp of whole grain flour 150ml plantbased milk maple syrup cinnamon For the dough cut up the apple… Read More »Cinnamon Apple Pancakes
My last days of farmwork in Western Australia have come so I decided to share some of my learnings from this time with you. I’ve had 2 different jobs here. The first one was in the shearing industry, I worked as a rousy in a crutching team which basically means picking up and sorting wool all day long. My second job which I’m still currently in is driving a tractor during seeding season. So here we go.. what farmwork has taught me: It’s never too late to learn something new, it’s possible to work in a job you have no… Read More »What farmwork in Western Australia has taught me.
When I was younger I always thought that by the age of 30 I’d have my life “figured out”. Well, let me tell you.. I turned 30 last year and I feel more lost in life than I ever have before. I’m not gonna lie, often I feel like I’m a failure, I honestly do. Deep inside I know it’s not true but seeing what others my age or younger are doing I’m like “look at them, look what they’ve achieved, how they make their dreams come true, make money, start a business, travel to amazing places.. and what are… Read More »30 and… lost?
On Instagram I asked you what topics you’d be interested to read about on my blog and I got a few people asking me about what I’m doing right now, how long I’m gonna stay in Australia, what the plan is. To be honest, there’s not too much going on right now and I’m pretty sure my life looks a lot more interesting online than it actually is, haha. Anyway, here we go.. Where am I right now? After 4 months in Queensland I flew over to Western Australia end of January and right now I still live in a… Read More »Life Update – April 2019
