Oil Pulling – how & why?

Inhalt

Oil pulling has become a big trend recently and I’ve been doing it for about a year now as well – it’s actually one of the best routines I’ve added to my daily life.

So, what is this oil pulling and why is it beneficial for your health?

How to do it:

  • Do it first thing in the morning, before drinking, eating or brushing your teeth.
  • Take about 1tbsp of oil into your mouth. You can use any organic cold-pressed oil but it’s said that coconut oil is the most effective and I haven’t tried any other oils. Tbh the thought of using another oil to me is a little disgusting, coconut oil is the most delicious one and I don’t mind having it in my mouth.
  • If the oil is too hard you can warm it up in your hand first before putting it in your mouth but it will also become liquid through the warmth of your mouth.
  • Make sure you’re never accidentally chewing and swallowing the oil as it’s full of toxins and bacteria that have been accumulated in your mouth during the night. It can even contain pus or mucous if you’ve been dealing with an infection recently.
  • Push and pull the oil in your mouth for about 10-20 minutes, depending on how much time you have. Sometimes I only do it for 5 minutes, sometimes even for 30. The good thing is that you can do other things like getting dressed or preparing breakfast while doing it.
  • Spit out the oil afterwards, rinse your mouth and brush your teeth normally.
  • It’s best to repeat this daily but 3-5 times a week is still effective as well.

Benefits:

  • The oil takes out all the toxins and bacteria that have been accumulated in your mouth during the night due to your body’s natural detoxification progress.
  • Removing all of these harmful substances from your body in the morning right away has a positive impact on your immune system which will not only help preventing diseases but also leave you with a higher energy level.
  • Inflammation and bacteria in the mouth are among others linked to heart attacks and dementia so with oil pulling you can even reduce the risk for diseases like these.
  • Oil pulling has a positive effect on dental health and hygiene. It can reduce a bad breath, teeth sensitiviy and the risk for gingivitis.
  • It’s a natural way to whiten your teeth. Personally I’ve always struggled with quite a lot of dental calculus. I’ve been to the dentists two times already since starting with oil pulling and I have never had as little calculus as I do now that I’ve started with oil pulling plus my teeth also appear to be whiter than ever.
  • As the oil will inevitably also touch your lips while oil pulling, it can also help with treating dry and brittle lips.

So as you can see: While oil-pulling is pretty easy, cheap & quick, the effects it has are not to be neglected.
